EC disapproves of Mulayam's remarks against Mainpuri DM

Strongly disapproving of Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's remarks against a district magistrate in Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission on Sunday advised him to be "more cautious" and exercise "restraint" in the future.

The three-member Commission, led by N Gopalaswami, noted that Yadav's reply to the notice issued by it was not satisfactory.

It asked the SP leader to be "more cautious" and adopt "restraint in the future," according to an EC spokesman.

Yadav came under the EC's scanner for allegedly threatening a woman poll officer and Mainpuri District Magistrate Ministhy Dileep for cancelling arms licences.

Taking note of Mulayam's controversial remarks against Dileep at the meeting in Mainpuri, from where he is contesting the Lok Sabha polls, the Commission had earlier issued a notice seeking his reply in this regard.

Yadav had warned that he would register a complaint with the EC against the district magistrate whom he accused of losing her sense of proportion and not being able to differentiate between a criminal and a common man.

An angry Yadav had also suggested that she should get her "head checked" and asked her to mend ways.
