MPA decision to resign en bloc after Guv move: Sangma

Members of the beleaguered Meghalaya Progressive Alliance coalition would resign en masse if Governor R S Mooshahary invited the Congress to form a new government in Meghalaya, which is under President Rule.

We strongly object the reported move of the Governor to invite the Congress to form the government.

The Congress claim of majority is baseless, NCP leader and architect of the MPA P A Sangma told reporters in Shillong late last night after a legislature party meeting of the MPA.

He said when four legislators are facing disqualification proceedings, the Congress cannot count them and the governor cannot accept them as a part of MPA.

Claiming that the both the MPA and the Congress now have the strength of 27 each, Sangma said, "It will be undemocratic for the governor to invite Congress to form the government."

Asked about the reported move by the MPA to resign en masse, he said, "We will discuss that if the governor, who is the custodian of the Constitution, destroys it.

"MPA will not tolerate it. The issue will be taken to the people of the country. I have spoken to non-Congress leader in New Delhi, they assured me all support," Sangma said.
